The author revises previous interpreta-tions of the inscription on the iron doors, demonstrating its symbolic rather than chronological meaning. Based on archival sources and conservation research, three phases of the modern murals are identified (ca. 1600, 1675\u20131689, 1718\u20131725), linked to the patronage of the Zamoyski family. The study emphasizes the need for further iconographic research to enable a fuller reconstruction of the church\u2019s artistic program.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Key words: Szczebrzeszyn; church; Zamoyski Entail; architecture.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>STRESZCZENIE<\/p>\n<p><em>Artyku\u0142 omawia dzieje cerkwi Za\u015bni\u0119cia Matki Boskiej w Szczebrzeszynie w kontek\u015bcie jej przemian architektonicznych i dekoracji malarskiej. Autorka rewiduje dotychczasowe odczytania inskrypcji na \u017celaznych drzwiach, dowodz\u0105c ich symbolicznego, a nie datuj\u0105cego charakteru. Na podstawie \u017ar\u00f3de\u0142 archiwalnych i bada\u0144 konserwatorskich wskazuje trzy fazy powstania nowo\u017cytnych malowide\u0142 (ok. 1600, 1675-1689, 1718-1725), zwi\u0105zanych z fundacj\u0105 Ordynat\u00f3w Zamojskich.
